In the case of Regina v Wang [2005] HL it was held on appeal that
“There are no circumstances in which a judge is entitled to direct the jury to return a verdict of guilty.”
I trust that this clarifies and disposes of the matter for those of you who were a little confused by it. I find it much more preferable to rely on judicial record in such matters than on even the most well-meaning of local pundits.
